Step‑by‑Step Instructions for Homemade Hot Italian Stromboli
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Divide the pound of pizza dough into two equal pieces and roll each into a rectangle approximately 9x13 inches.
- Spread 1/4 cup of basil pesto followed by 1/3 cup of marinara sauce over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border at the edges.
- Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning and 1 tablespoon of crushed Calabrian chili paste over the sauces, then layer with sliced roasted red peppers, 1/2 cup of shredded mozzarella, 1/2 cup of shredded provolone, pepperoni, and optional chorizo.
- Tuck in the edges of the dough and roll the Stromboli tightly from one end to the other. Pinch the seams closed.
- Place the rolled Stromboli seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet, brush the top with the beaten egg, and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds. Make small slits on top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and flaky.
- Slice into hearty pieces and serve warm with your favorite marinara sauce and a fresh side salad.

Notes
Ensure the pizza dough is at room temperature for easy rolling. Cut small slits in the top before baking to allow steam to escape.
