Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9x9-inch baking pan with butter and parchment paper.
  2. Grind the Earl Grey tea and dried culinary lavender in a food processor until finely ground.
  3. Whisk the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground tea-lavender mixture in a mixing bowl.
  4. Cream softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer for 3-5 minutes until fluffy.
  5. Add room temperature eggs one at a time, mixing well, then stir in vanilla bean paste.
  6. Alternate adding buttermilk and dry ingredient mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  7. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 38-44 minutes.
  8. Prepare the milk soak by heating whole milk, steeping Earl Grey tea and lavender for 15 minutes, then mix in sweetened condensed milk.
  9. Cream together softened butter and cream cheese for frosting; gradually add powdered sugar and lavender until fluffy.
  10. Once cake cools, trim top, poke holes, pour milk soak over, and frost with lavender cream cheese frosting.
  11. Slice and serve with a cup of Earl Grey tea.
