Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, baking powder, and baking soda.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and rum extract into the creamed mixture.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes.
  7. Scoop out about 1 oz of dough, roll it into a ball, and then roll in sugar to coat.
  8. Place dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, flatten slightly, and bake for 8-10 minutes.
  9. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  10. Whip together the frosting ingredients until smooth and creamy.
  11. Once cookies are cooled, frost each cookie generously.
  12. For a festive touch, sprinkle nutmeg or cinnamon on top of the frosting.
