  • 1 cup frozen peas or mixed vegetables optional, stir in during simmer
For the Dumplings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour sifted for light dumplings
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder for leavening
  • 1 tablespoon butter softened
  • ½ cup milk whole or 2%

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Mixing Bowl

Method

Cooking Instructions
  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, about 6-8 minutes.
  2. Add diced onion to the skillet and sauté for about 4 minutes until softened. Stir in minced garlic for an additional minute.
  3. Mix in tomato paste, then stir in flour. Gradually pour in beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps; season with thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Allow the mixture to simmer over medium-low heat for 8-10 minutes until thickened. Stir in frozen peas or mixed vegetables.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in softened butter, then mix in milk until just combined.
  6. Drop tablespoons of dumpling dough over the beef mixture, aiming for 6-8 dumplings. Cover the skillet with a lid and reduce heat to low.
  7. Steam the dumplings for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
  8. Once steamed, remove from heat and let sit uncovered for 5 minutes. Serve in bowls with beef and dumplings.
