For the Stew
  • 1 medium Onion Adds sweetness and depth; shallots are a milder alternative.
  • 1 medium Plum Tomato Brings acidity and freshness; any ripe tomato variety will work.
  • 4 cloves Garlic Infuses the stew with aromatic flavor; consider garlic powder if fresh isn't an option.
  • 1 inch Fresh Ginger Contributes warmth and spiciness; ground ginger makes a viable substitution.
  • 1 to taste Red Thai Chiles Offers heat to the dish; jalapeño is a suitable milder substitute.
  • 2 tablespoons Extra-Virgin Olive Oil Ideal for sautéing; can be swapped for any neutral oil with slight flavor changes.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Coriander Essential for flavor; whole spices can enhance potency but require toasting.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cumin Essential for flavor; whole spices can enhance potency but require toasting.
  • 1 can Coconut Milk Delivers creaminess and richness; other dairy-free milks can be used but will alter taste.
  • 1 medium Sweet Potato Adds bulk and sweetness; regular potatoes or squash can be used as alternatives.
  • 2 cups Swiss Chard Provides texture and nutrition; any leafy green like spinach works too.
  • 1 can Canned Beans Boosts protein and creaminess; consider chickpeas for a different texture.
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Lemon Juice Brightens flavors; vinegar can serve as an acidity substitute if lemon is missing.
